Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today. Rule #4
Session one for me is over. It started out quite slow and challenging but by the end it was pretty good. Two weeks ago it rained for a lot of days. It was kind of pleasant for a change but we welcomed the sunshine back with open arms.
It feels like there is always something interesting happening around here so that keeps it exciting. Last weekend we pressed apple cider and made apple butter.
One day one of the boys caught a European hornet the other day. It was about an inch and a half long. He then proceeded to tie some string around it. For the first few hours it flew along beside us as we walked around and did our things. A coffin has been made but I'm not sure if they ever got around to the burial. There was also a toad on a string in the same day but the toad didn’t seem to be into exercise as much so he was released back into the great outdoors.
During volleyball one boy went for the big play and ended up on another boys foot. On plans for our day that day we got to hike up to the top of the mountain that we live on. Between about five different guys we managed to carry him up to the top and then back down again. This was an impressive display of the group pulling together to make something happen. Unfortunately we ended up missing supper by about four minutes.
Chief Jake shot a doe with his bow on the first day of bow season. There is a lot of deer around here so we are all pretty hopeful to get one. Currently there are two boys out there trying to get us some supper because Miss Jane and Chief Jerry are not home for a few days.
Every week each chief gets two off days. I have found these are vitally important to maintain a sound mind. I don’t even want to think about the amount of frozen Oreos I have consumed on my off days.
Last night was what we call canoe supper. It is the last supper at the end of a session. Each group acted out a skit which turned out to be quite entertaining. The staff acted out the slave days and the underground railroad. That was impressive. We had a little farewell ceremony for Chief Terence. We are very sad to see him go.
Some of the staff is going to a sight and sound theater tomorrow to watch a play on Daniel. This is something we have been looking forward to for a little while.
Life is good over here and I do not have anything to complain about but I do miss my home folks. Peace.
Were missing u at home here looking forward to the next homestay
